Description
Ames Model 1832 or 1833 US Artillery Short Sword Dated 1845. Looks like there is some original gray on the blade. There are several chips on blade edges. Blade does have what appears to be grind marks. No clue if this was from sharpening or somebody prior to me trying to clean it up. I am selling as I found it with no cleaning or sharpening other than wiping down with some silicone spray. With a magnifying glass I can make out the N P and partial eagle stamp. A few other letters in Ames are slightly visible. Other side is stamped US 1845 and NWP. Brass handle is stamped WAT (possibly WAJ) on one side and NWP on other. Brass handle is firmly affixed to blade. Blade measures approximately 18 3/4". Overall length is a little over 24 3/4". Will come with a sheath that fits but is not original. Please review all photos to determine condition and identification. Item is sold as is with No Returns. Will be shipped via UPS Ground. With the date hard to say whether this was active during the civil war. Another sold listing has one that was dug up near the Shiloh battlefield with identical markings on brass.
