Ames Pre-Civil War Militia Infantry Officers Sword Saber & Brass Scabbard

Description

Civil War Militia Officers Sword with Brass Scabbard. The ricasso appears unmarked. The grip is tight, the crossguard is a little loose, the eagle head pommel is more loose and a bit crooked. The grip is solid with some crackle lines. The etched blade is straight, unsharpened, some small nicks on the lower half, it has some age spots scattered throughout, and the tip has been blunted. The detailed brass scabbard is marked "N.P. Ames", "Cutler", "Springfield", and "Mass.". Overall it is solid with a few dents/dings, has some oxidation spots mostly on the backside. Washer is intact. Length of the blade is 30 1/2" (1" wide and 1/4" thick), the sword is 35 11/16" and in the scabbard it is 36 1/8".
