Shankha (Skt. शंख, Śaṇkha / Tib. དུང་ དཀར་, Waili / Lhassa. Dung dkar) - a horn made from the shell of a sea mollusk. A sacred symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism. In Hinduism is one of the attributes of Vishnu.
Ritual object in the form of a large seashell. The peculiarity of the ritual or sacred shell, is its twisting to the right in a clockwise direction. In Hinduism, the shell personifies the blessing, is an attribute of Vishnu and a symbol of the primary sound, "Nada-Brahma" (sound of Brahma's breath), from which the Universe originated. The Vaishnava shell is revered as an auspicious sacred object. Due to the aquatic origin of the shell and its some external similarity to the vulva, it is considered as a symbol of fertility or fertility. The sacred shell protects its owner from evil, helps fight demons, empowers and invokes divine powers. It is believed that the sink provides protection from the evil eye, and she herself is the object of worship. The sound of the shell, when used as a wind instrument, heralded the beginning and end of the battle.
The shell is widely used in the ritual use of Hindus. In particular, she became one of the tools with which to invoke deity. The sound emanating from the sink opens or closes worship in Hindu temples.
This tool is traditionally associated with fame, longevity, prosperity, cleansing from sins. In the past, it was used to send signals to the battlefield to convene troops, to notify of an attack or the beginning of a battle; in our time, in addition to religious rituals, Shankhu can be heard, for example, during a wedding.
The Horn sound is very loud, lingering.
