BRAZILIAN LIGHT MINIE RIFLE
Good condition
No pitting or grinding marks on the blade
the enfield style gun this was designed for & fits was made by the Belgium firm "O.P. Drissen " - their factory logo was a anchor flanked by the letters D & C
During the war the contracted shipment was diverted from Brazil to America ,..( and thus stoping the south from sneaking them back to the confederacy )
this fit on the lug & side bar fastened on the right side of the barrel ,..
It has a brass hilt and a long straight 24" blade
It is 29" over in length
The locking lug and spring function as good as the day it was made
It is marked S&K ( schnitzer and kirschbauer co. From Germany ) ,
S&K had the contract with the Drissen company to supply these bayonets
( some collectors claim these will also fit the colt revolving rifle )
There is a serial number on the pommel , 1820 indicating this was among the very first batch imported ,
they are commonly associated with issuance by the state of Ohio ,.... As many of the rifles found today are marked "OHIO' or just OH
Although there is some proof that the rebels /CSA also imported many of these same arms via blockade runner too
Dont pass it up
