CIVIL WAR MODEL 1850 STAFF AND FIELD OFFICERS SWORD PRESENTED TO "LIEUT. JAMES KENTA U.S. CIVIL WAR MODEL 1850 STAFF & FIELD OFFICERS SWORD PRESENTED TO "LIEUT. JAMES KENT STONE FROM HIS PUPILS" OF "THE 2ND MASS. INFANTRY" IN FINE UNTOUCHED CONDITION. ALL ORIGINAL AND COMPLETE. THE SWORD HAS A FINE BLADE, ETCHING FROSTING, & POLISH. THE ETCHING ON ONE SIDE HAS "AN AMERICAN EAGLE & SHIELD, AND CANNONS" SURROUDED BY FOILAGE. THE OTHER SIDE HAS A BANNER WITH THE WORD "CONSTITUTION" ALSO SURROUNDED BY FOILAGE ALONG THE BLADE. THE UNTOUCHED BASKET HAS A LARGE "U.S." INSIDE IT. THE GRIP AND WIRE, GUARD, & POMMEL ARE ALSO UNTOUCHED AS SHOWN. THE AMES MARKED SCABBARD HAS NICE MOUNTS WHICH MATCH THE COLOR OF THE GRIP & BASKET. ON THE TOP MOUNT IS INSCRIBED "PRESENTED TO LIEUT. JAMES KENT STONE BY HIS FORMER PUPILS, BOSTON 1862". JAMES WAS A STUDENT WHEN HE ENLISTED ON 8/7/1862 AS A PRIVATE. HE ROSE THROUGH THE RANKS AND MADE LIEUT. ON 10/3/1862 WHEN HE RECEIVED THE SWORD. HE WAS IN THREE HEAVY BATTLES WITH THE SWORD WHICH WERE "WINCHESTER VA., CEDAR MOUNTAIN VA., AND ANTIETAM MD." HE WAS DISCHARGED FOR DISABILITY ON 1/9/1863. THIS IS A FINE LOOKING AND VERY UNTOUCHED U.S. CIVIL WAR STAFF & FIELD OFFICERS SWORD PRESENTED TO LIEUT. JAMES KENT STONE!
