Civil War Era US Imported S&K Sword Bayonet w/Leather Scabbard for Short Enfield Rifle - Original - Very Nice Condition
Up for sale is a Civil War Era US Imported S&K Sword Bayonet w/Leather Scabbard.  This is an Original Bayonet & Scabbard.  Research suggests this bayonet was probably used for a short type Enfield Rifle.  The blade finish is bright.  Some discoloration spots on the blade, see photos.  The blade is marked: S&K and has a proof mark.  S&K stands for Schnitzler & Kirschbaum, Solingen.  This is a German made bayonet that was imported by the US.  It has a heavy brass handle.  The locking mechanism works fine.  The handle is marked: 3763 on the butt.  The scabbard has a leather body with brass throat and tip.  The leather is full intact.  No rips or tears.  The leather is a bit dry.  The rear seam stitching is still intact.  Some surface cracking and wrinkling on the body of the scabbard.  Hard to find scabbards in this condition.  Measurements are approximately: Blade length 24 1/14", 1" wide, 3/8" thick and 3/4" muzzle diameter.  The bayonet does not fully seat into the scabbard.
This is a nice representative example that has ages well over it's 150+ year life.
