Civil War Era US Model 1861 Collins Sword Bayonet w/Leather Scabbard - Original - Very Nice ConditionUp for sale is a Civil War Era US Model 1861 Collins Sword Bayonet w/Leather Scabbard. This is an Original Bayonet & Scabbard Set. The blade finish is bright. Some discoloration spots on the blade, see photos. The blade is marked: Collins & Co., Hartford, Con. It has a heavy brass handle. The locking mechanism works fine. The handle is marked: F.C.W. on the butt and 5314 in the slot. The scabbard has a leather body with brass throat and tip. The leather is full intact. No rips or tears. It is still fairly soft and supple. The rear seam stitching is still intact. Some surface cracking and wrinkling on the body of the scabbard. Hard to find scabbards in this condition. Measurements are approximately: Blade length 22 9/16", 1 1/4" wide, 5/16" thick and 7/8" muzzle diameter.
This is a nice representative example that has ages well over it's 150+ year life.
