Early Baccarat Toothpick Holder Mounted on a Metal Base

Description

I have seen a few of these exact pieces before, but never mounted on a footed metal base. The whole piece measures about 5 1/2" long and 4 1/4" tall. I think this was made in the late 1880's or early 1900's. It is not in perfect condition. The basket has a chip to the top of the rim and I think a small one on the body of basket behind the boy. Also, between the basket and the boy, there looks to be a hole that was plugged up with some sort of resin. When you look underneath, it measures up with the hole in the metal brace. Maybe this was part of larger sculpture? I am not sure of the metal, but I would guess it is brass. Contact me if you have questions or can give me some insight on this glass.
