M1860 US CAVALRY SABER WITH SCABBARD

Description

S170X, Steel scabbard, 35" shiny steel blade marked; US JFW 1864, on one side and the other, in an oval; MANSFIELD & LAMB FORESTDALE in Long Island, NY at that time. Overall length unsheathed is 41" and retains much original wood grip leather cover and all of the original braided wire. All bronze hand guard and pommel was later nickle plated, much flaking off now & should be removed anyway, same for the full, un-dented scabbard. 10,000 were contracted by the US Army, during the Civil War and these were not plated originally, yet it is the plating that preserved it so well. Scarce and all original and complete, ship weight is 6 pounds.
