    Description

    Original bayonet for Colt Contract Alteration of U. S. Model 1841 Mississippi Rifles.  The blade has aged to a gray uncleaned look with a few very insignificant nicks toward the forward end of the fuller.  It shows no signs of abuse or polishing. It is dated 1861 and has a smooth finish with a few darker corrosion stains.  I don't see any pitting, just staining. The nicks are so small I couldn't see them, I found them running my finger along the blade; see enlargement of edge of blade for sunlight reflection.
