Description
Model 1821 infantry sword sold by Horstmann & Sons to militia units in the 1850's. The swords were sold with two scabbard variations, an officer's with two suspension rings and for non-commissioned officers with a stud for suspension from a baldric.Solid piece with all parts tight to each other. Original wrap and wire on the grip. R
"HORTSMANN & SONS" and "PHILADELPHIA" stamped on the ricassos. The leather scabbard is complete with both throat and drag firmly attached. The back seam has separated pretty much the entire length but still tight to the blade and displays well.
The overall length of the sword is 35. 3/4" with a
29 3/4" blade being 1 1/8" near the hilt.
