Description
Post US Civil War Model 1860 Staff & Field Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso marked "U.S. Armory Springfield" over "Springfield, Mass.". The guard and pommel cap are tight but the grip does have a little movements. The grip shows light wear, 97% of the leather grip is complete, and the twisted wire is complete. The double fixed clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and on the other fixed clamshell is a shield with crossed cannons, swords, and rifle. The etched blade is straight, unsharpened, the tip is a little sharp, and has small age spots scattered throughout (heaviest on the lower half towards the tip). The scabbard is solid with no dents but the nickel finish has freckling scattered throughout (heaviest near the mounts), and the drag has "S.W.P." stamped on it. The washer is missing. Length of the blade measures 31 1/4"(5/8" wide x 1/4" thick)
, length of the sword is 37 1/4", and overall in the scabbard it is 39". Nice display piece!
