    Description

US Civil War Model 1850 Foot Officers Sword.
The ricasso appears unmarked. The grip is worn down to the wood and that has been worn through in a few spots. The  guard is slightly loose and the grip moves a bit more.
    The etched blade
has "US", an eagle, a cannon, also etched floral and leaf designs, it
is straight except for the last 1/2" by the tip has a minor bend, the tip is sharp, bright and clean with only some light surface rust scattered throughout.
Leather washer is intact. No scabbard. Length of the blade is 31 1/2" (1 1/8" wide and 5/16" thick), and the sword overall is 37 1/4".
Based on the pictures in Thillmann's Civil War Army Swords Book (page 350), this appears to be a C. Roby sword due to the grapevines, style of eagle, and spiderweb designs.
