Description
US Civil War Model 1850 Foot Officers Sword. The ricasso is marked "Collins & Co." over "Hartford" over "Conn" over "1862". The grip is worn down to the wood, a small piece of the former rayskin grip and twisted wire still remain by the pommel. The grip is tight but the guard does wiggle a bit. The guard is a little deformed.
The etched blade
has "US", an eagle, vine and leaf designs. Overall the blade is unsharpened, no nicks, has a slight bend about 12" up from the tip, age spots scattered throughout the lower half, it has been broken at about the halfway point a
nd repaired at some point.
Leather washer is missing. No scabbard. Length of the blade is 31 5/8" (1" wide and 5/16" thick), and the sword overall is 37 5/16". Not perfect but the etchings still look great and will display beautifully! Rare maker!
