    Description

    US Civil War Model 1840 NCO Sword.
    The ricasso is marked behind the folded clamshell with "Horstmann" over "Phila" and the reverse has the Keystone mark that supposedly stands for Emerson & Silver. Below where the washer should be, it is marked "11+"
    .
    The brass guard is tight but the grip will move a bit. The knuckle guard is slightly bent. The clamshells have some small nicks and scratches.
    The blade
    is straight, unsharpened, some small nicks along the edge (mainly on the lower half towards the tip), there are age spots
    with light surface rust
    throughout and the lower third has a little pitting.
    W
    asher is missing. Length of the blade is 31 7/8" (7/8" wide and 1/4" thick) and overall the sword is 38".
