Description
Post US Civil War Model 1860 Whistle Staff & Field Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso is marked "The M.C. Lilley & Co." over "Columbus, O" and on the reverse side the Knights head stamp which stands for C.R. Kirschbaum. The guard and pommel cap both move a tiny bit, the grip is tight. The grip shows little wear and is complete. The twisted wire is also complete. The knuckleguard is a little deformed. The whistle is functional and loud. The double fixed clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and on the folding side it has a shield with crossed cannons, swords, and rifle. The blade is clean with bright etchings, it is straight, no nicks, and is unsharpened. The scabbard is solid with a couple small dents, it has tiny spots of surface loss scattered throughout, it has a few minor bends on the lower half towards the drag, and the drag has a star on one side. The washer is intact. Length of the blade measures 29 3/4" (5/8" wide x 3/16" thick), length of the sword is 36 1/4", and overall in the scabbard it is 37 1/2".The M.C. Lilley & Co. mark was used from 1882 to 1925.
