Description
Post US Civil War Model 1860 Staff & Field Sword with Scabbard. Ricasso is faintly marked "Ridabock & Co." over "New York". The guard, the grip, and pommel are tight. The pommel cap is gone so you could tighten the nut if things get loose. The sharkskin grip shows heavy wear and only 30% remains. The twisted wire wrap is 100% complete and is loose due to the grip loss. The double clamshell has the typical eagle with flags on it on one side and the folding side has a shield with swords, flags, and rifles. The quillon has a lion face on it. The locking screw under the folding clamshell is intact and functional. The etched blade is straight, unsharpened, the tip is very sharp, no nicks along the edges, and scattered age spots throughout. The scabbard is solid with no dents but does have a few spots of loss and one drag screw is gone. The washer is missing. Length of the blade measures 31" (3/4" wide x 3/16" thick), length of the sword is 36 7/8", and overall in the scabbard it is 38".Ridabock wasn't in business until 1888 (even though some internet searches claim 1847).
